Well-Known Global End-User – Hybrid Working: Dublin/Remote

Talentspot has partnered with a very well-known global end-user who are an undisputed market leader in their sector, to help them attract and hire a brilliant data expert.

Do you genuinely love data and live and breathe everything to do with data? Do you want to help build a data future in a company that wants to be known as an award winner across Ireland’s data and analytics communities? Do you want to work with large-scale data solutions and be responsible for building trust in data across a global enterprise?

Our end-user customer’s looking to fill a brand new position within their Data and Analytics practice. This role’s been created as a key aspect of a wider data strategy for their Data Practice. As platforms expand at pace, new data services and data products are being implemented, a specialist focus on how they manage data is now required.

Current team members say that this is the most exciting time that they have had to join the team in terms of growth and prospects and there could be a career trajectory to a CDO position in the future. The way they now gather, structure and consume data has been so transformative, this is almost a greenfield opportunity; where you will grow a new team and function to help build this company’s enterprise-scale data future.

In this principally functional role (with a techno/functional split of 30/70) you will design, define and own the company’s data management standards, strategy and capabilities; being the go-to person for extensive new programs or projects, providing guidance, support and direction on all things data management related. You’ll lead the creation and promotion of the company’s data management capabilities, to then support projects, ensuring that the correct data sets are utilised and are being brought in efficiently, that standards are clearly understood and being utilised, and data quality and governance are to best practice standards – defined by you.

You won’t be executing and building solutions (this will be done by engineers and vendors) but consult as the advising voice - as the data management SME across the organisation. You will, however, be providing input into data architecture designs as a collaborator, and you’ll sign-off on designs. Expect to be involved in very large, enterprise scale migrations to new technologies, or brand new implementation programs, leading data management from the client-side.

As the data management SME, you would also be the knowledge base to identify opportunities to reuse existing data solution design components and architecture to solve new business and technical challenges, to alleviate data architects presently covering this.

Skills and Experience Required:
  • 8+ years’ experience as a data specialist in a data delivery type role
  • A huge passion for data management, iseally with some commercial experience in data management
  • Come from a technical background in data: as a DBA, Data Modeller, Architect, Data Analyst, Data Engineer etc.
  • Good SQL; able to roll up your sleeves to explore and understand data on occasion (your team would be doing this more often)
  • Management experience leading individuals, to help build a new team
  • Leadership of data functions, or a data practice, and/or vendors of data products
  • Strong at leading, influencing and managing senior technologists, senior stakeholders and vendors
  • Strong people leadership
  • You will need to be an excellent, confident communicator and negotiator, who’s able to help guide, influence and ensure adherence to  your data standards in a multi $billion enterprise
  • A background with enterprise scale RDBMS, DWH and Data Lakes etc.
  • Able to prioritise demand; set and manage expectations
  • Able to promote the value of data management to stakeholders and senior technologists to help drive future demand for your team’s capabilities

  • Selfstarter and very proactive
Desirable Skills and Experience:
